Well, it's been the best Christmas yet. Our little man has had a blast. It's even been a white Christmas. The weatherman said we haven't had a white Christmas here since 1963. I can't imagine how it could get much better than this! We've had a huge breakfast with family at our home and now relaxing and napping. I am so thankful for my family and friends. I am also thankful for this holiday season. Each one gets better and better!

By the way...here come T-R-O-U-B-L-E!

I can't even describe how blessed this post makes me feel. I am so excited to release all of these sessions that I have had under lock and key since October. I didn't want to give away anyone's Christmas cards. This season was phenomenal for me, in more ways than one. The LORD has blessed me with the gift of photography. I am so happy that I can capture one of his greatest designs, families. I treasure the time I spent with all of you. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. I am thankful with each session that new friendships are made. That is the true blessing in what I do. I hope that I have been a positive influence on your family and that we captured memories that will last a lifetime. I pray you all cherish your families this week, as I will mine. Have you ever noticed how life doesn't wait on you? My family made a mad dash to ATL this weekend for a sad day. We buried my uncle very unexpectedly. Have you ever noticed how funerals are devastating time that bring so many blessings? No, I do not enjoy them, but I do enjoy visiting with family members I don't get to see often. I grew up with my cousins, they were always older, but we had so much fun. We grew up in the country, these were my "city cousins". She introduced me to Prince and R.E.M. I was coooooool. ATL got cool stuff like years before Mississippi did. So, it was a sad weekend with some happy times. It was fun to watch my little man enjoy his "city cousins". Who couldn't enjoy this face?

It isn't always easy to travel with children, but take time this holiday season to enjoy your family. We only get one, no matter how crazy that one may be, they are still our family. Laugh and enjoy it. We aren't promised tomorrow...but we are promised eternity with a loving Father above!

Another great December day. We spent the morning with some of our best friends making our Annual Gingerbread house. I'll post pics later. Then we decorated! Little man watched The Polar Express with daddy while I resized photos and ate chocolate candy cane bark. Way too much candy cane bark, but it seemed to calm the frustration of my fixed ratios....blah blah blah...anyway....what a fun day. Truly my favorite time of year!

Putting One Foot In Front Of The Other...

It's been an amazing week. I have laughed, I have cried purely from exhaustion, and I have lived. I mean I have really lived. I have seen 5 years of work come full circle. There is a quote at the bottom of my blog that says, "Life is too short to accept your limitations.You are the only person who can give yourself permission to be great." I don't know who the author is, but I read it daily. Most of the time, we are our own worst enemies. But this week, it's been a good one. It's been an incredibly humbling and gratifying at the same time. I pray alot about my photography business. I pray that I schedule properly so that it adds to my family and doesn't take away. I pray that I shine for the Lord while photographing others. I pray that even when I just want to say "no" because something seems too hard, that I say "yes" and take a challenge head on. This week I faced some challenges head on and "by the horns" as my grandfather would say. For those of you that don't know, I am an avid horseback rider. I've been riding since I could walk. My mom, she is just about Miss Rodeo of every surrounding state. So, "by the horns" means when your brother who is 5 years older than you dares you to wrestle a steer, you grit your teeth and dig your heels in, even if you were a girl and only 4. So, I am challenging all of you this week, just like my week challenged me. Dig your heels in to life, pray continually, be scared...but try, if you don't try...you won't fail. If you don't fail...you'll never get the grit you need to succeed. I also challenge you to read my friend Natalie's post. It's a great post to start the first of December with! So jump into tomorrow with prayer and anticipation of success and failure, but get some grit and try and eventually you will succeed.

We both can't either :)! Well folks, my year is coming to an end. I promised myself not to pick my camera up after Dec. 1, unless it was for my own family. Well, lots of inclement weather the past 2 weeks has made me go back on that promise, but hopefully we will be finishing up after this next week. I use Dec. and the first half of Jan. for family, friends, and creative time. So check out my webpage often in Dec. and Jan. for new things to come!! These Boots Are Made For Wearing...

I like to post things about myself and things I like on this blog. You get to know me better! I have an obsession with cowboy boots. I collect them. Several clients have asked about my most recent pair, probably b/c I never take them off!

They are the Ariat Rawhide Square Toe with the Gel Sole..That is right ladies, I said gel sole. Translation: I can shoot in them all day and my feet never hurt! So, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM. They come in a bunch of other colors too! Caution: Ariat runs big. I bought an 8 and normally wear 9. Go grab you some for the holidays! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! Hubby just happened to surprise me with this pair for our Anniversary. He's good like that!

Pancakes and Cutie Patooties

Little man and I were able to meet one of my best friends this weekend and enjoy some fabulous pancakes. We haven't seen each other in a month and we live in the same town, hectic schedules! So glad to enjoy some time visiting and take a few photographs while I was there. Little man and her other little girl go to school together, they were off adventuring and collecting bugs in no time. They were not concerned with our picture taking antics at all. This little doll however, indulged us, and I am so glad she did....

These sweet twins and I had too much fun! Their mama is a very special lady in my book, she set hubby and I up on our very first blind date. She is a pretty good match maker! We've been friends for a long time, I couldn't have enjoyed photographing a set of twins more....
**revision: I forgot to post last night that today is our 8th Anniversary. That's right, these guys mama fixed us up 11 years ago today, we got married on our 3 year anniversary. Wow, 11 years, time flies when you are having fun. It doesn't hurt that it's with your best friend. So, I am indebted to these twin's mama, for like ever. What a happy day. Well 11 years down and 111 to go...can't wait!

I love the above photo. After entering the "C's" home, I was immediately drawn to this piece of furniture. It's beautiful, then Mrs. C told me that it was their first piece of furniture purchased after she married Mr. C. Then I was beside myself when I loaded this picture, so special!

Again, big bro looks like such a protector....love it!

Well, this is my busy season. I am enjoying every minute of all of my wonderful clients. I feel so blessed to be doing what I really love and feel passionate about. So, the above pic represents the month of November for me. A total whirlwind. I am tired, but I love it! I've been feeling a little like good old Brutus below. I think my bags have been that big too.....

Hubs insisted we take a break. I reluctantly agreed and moved some things around and we made it happen. And oh, I am soooo glad we did. So, I am now relaxing here until Saturday and enjoying the most beautiful fall foliage you have every seen. (Chanticleer Inn)

Saturday around our home totally rocked. We hit up Country Pumpkins, we haven't had time to go yet. If you aren't familiar with Country Pumpkins, it's only the best pumpkin patch in the state and it happens to be 5 miles from my front door. Oh yes, over spendage on pumpkins every year! **side note: the t's are excellent quality. Little man is in a 4T and I bought a 6. It should last all season if I don't dry it.

Then we hit up Bloomers (click here for site), the best nursery in these parts. Love, love, love me some Bloomers. 5 miles yet again from our hizouse...more overspendage. Mrs. Debbie and Mrs. Gloria know more about plants than wikapedia!

GiGi went with us! She corralled the little man and oversaw his master plan for picking mama "all the pwetty flowers" he saw...thankfully Mrs. Debbie knows us well enough not to enforce the "you break it you buy it" philosophy!

Then we hit the road home...oh what a beautimous road it is this time of year!

This is just a sneak peek of this lovely couple. There are many more to come. I enjoyed meeting Mr. and Mrs. R today. They've been married 3 years and the way that they look at each other, you would think it was 3 weeks! Enjoyed getting to know them. I remember that stage, married before kids. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trade my kiddo for anything, but I do remember when every Friday night was date night...so guys, enjoy it. Every stage of marriage is a season and every season gets better....

I had a ball photographing these two. This photo shoot was so great. A friend from high school, that now lives in Birmingham, booked a session a while back. When setting a place, she said her grandparents lived down the road from us. When we moved last year I eyed a beautiful white farmhouse near us. Everyday I drive by it and think, wow, I would love to shoot there! Coincidence, it was her grandparents home. So, I had a ball, and it was a day for making memories that will last a lifetime! What a small world...

We had fun this afternoon outrunning the RAIN! Yes it rained on us and I didn't even care. I actually wanted to dance out in it, but I was afraid my camera would get too wet. I hope fall is on its way now, it sure is cooler and did we ever need that rain! These two cuties and I had so much fun with their mama. I have know them for a very long time and love photographing them! They are just growing up too fast though, an epidemic around our house too! This is just a sneak, so many more cute ones. It's amazing how quick you can snap with a thunderstorm looming over you..

Christmas card shoots started this past week. I love them, it's twenty minutes of fun. I love them so much for families with toddlers because twenty minutes is their prime time. This is such a sweet family ! We finally got to meet face to face. I enjoyed them very much. Miss B was such a fun senior to shoot! Seniors are so full of life and hope for a future to come. I love to hear their plans and aspirations for the future. Being a mom now, seniors make me a tad sad too. I know it means somebody's baby is leaving them for the big world. I love Miss B and her mama....I saw a few tears being shed out of the corner of my eye and I totally sympathized with them. I think they should be tears of pride though, for raising a beautiful young lady with a light that shines for the Lord. I hope I should be so proud one day! Good job Mrs. M and Mr. B!

My photog bff and I went on an adventure a few weeks ago without our other halves or our children. We were lost and then we found our groove. We had a blast. We toured the city and then moved on to photographing our first wedding. All of it was an adventure of a lifetime. I am still spinning. Here are a few photos of the city. A New Generation of Bulldogs...

If you've been around our house any or around my blog you know...we bleed maroon around here! This precious baby boy is no exception. Introducing a new 3rd generation Bulldog, sweet baby L. He was such an angel to photograph. Below is one of my most prized photos of this season. Baby L is resting comfortably in the helmet that his granddaddy played for Mississippi State University in the 70's. His helmet is resting on the blanket that his great grandmother made for his mother a few months before she was married. It was a graduation gift upon her graduation from MSU. There is alot of heritage behind this photo. You will hear me speak often of how photographs log our history. This photo represents sweet baby L's, past, present, and future.

I posted a few of these after I had just loaded them. I wanted to post most of my favorites after editing. As many of you know, black and white is my most favorite medium. These pictures speak to me in black and white, they inspire me. Nothing can take the place of newborn pictures. I urge you, get your newborn's photo taken. I'm not plugging myself either. If you don't love my work, I can suggest others for you, just make sure to get their picture taken. You forget how tiny their toes were, how they yawned, how they curled their tiny fingers around yours. They grow up so fast, make sure you froze those tiny moments in time when your baby was so new to this world. God has an awesome plan for our families. I lay my troubles down daily for HIM to help me with and I hope I always remember to thank him daily for the blessings we receive in our little ones. I try to imagine sometimes how a mother's love of a newborn, and her children in general, represent HIS love for us. New everyday, never ending, understanding, and full of hope.....

A BOY is...

Truth with dirt on its face and the hope of the future with a frog in its pocket.

Photographing little boys is one of my most favorite things to do. Little boys are like those heart boxes of candy that you get at Valentines Day. You never know what flavor you are going to get...today...Little Man C was all boy..the best kind. Having a true boy myself, I have a great appreciation for the spirit of a little boy. I also have a great appreciation for the mothers of little boys. We work hard...and today...I have to say we worked hard. Me, Mama, Glammy, we were a good team today. Good job ladies. Today, we suceeded. We got this picture above (and many more) , but this one to me is what I call the "jackpot" image. It is the one when you look back, you can remember his curls, how he smiled and laughed, how he smelled, and you can remember how your little boy stole your heart forever. As a mama, I cling to these because one day I know he will run off into this great big world on his own. Then I will pull out the images like these I have of my little boy and remember....these were the days....

Baby H was such a handsome little guy! So sweet and cooperative, he practically slept the whole time. Such a sweet family and precious baby boy. I love it when you leave a shoot and become new friends with your customers. I have the best job! I get to play with babies and then leave them with their parents...that must be what grandparenting is like!

Graduates!

Well, I graduated my first class last night. I have been teaching a photography class for about the last 5 weeks and their final exam was last night. I have to admit, I was scared to death to take this on and teach others. But, as many of you know, when you teach....you are the one who learns the most. I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did. It really gave me a chance to put all of my knowledge of photography to the test. It wasn't perfect by any means and some nights I know they left confused, as I did, but we made it through it! I have to admit, I am way way prouder of the photos that they ended up taking than I have ever been of my own. I am so happy that I was able to share a little bit of what I know in order to help them photograph their children and families! So, they all took their final exam last night and ACED IT! A+++++ everybody. They not only aced their exam, they gave me an incredible gift...a chance to be on the other side of the camera! I will forever be endebted to these girls! Way to go Amy, Carroll Lane, Leah, and Emily Anne! You are awesome photographers!!!

And yes, I will be offering another class, probably this fall...I am still getting my thoughts together on that!

Sensational Summer, Come On Fabulous Fall!

It has been a sensational summer. Might I also add ,sizzling..wow it is a hot July this year! My clients have been beautiful and have blessed me beyond measure. I have enjoyed photographing every single one of you. I have been so behind, so here is a whopper of a post to catch me up! I am done with summer shooting guys, it is too hot! Unless we have verbally spoken prior to this week, I will begin booking fall shoots October 1st. Bring on a fabulous fall! I cannot wait to get shooting in some cooler temps. I am taking some creative time until then. I am spending a week in San Francisco with this awesome photographer and one of my dearest friends, Kara Cain. If you are in the Tampa area and need a photographer, look her up! We are working closely with an awesome photogher in Cali and I hope to come home with all kinds of new skilz....until then, see you at the pool with my wild man who learned to swim this summer! Well, I finally got to meet and photograph baby J. At 9 days old, he is by far my second favorite little boy. Maybe it's because he belongs to the closest thing I have to a little sister, or maybe it's because he is ADORABLE. We had so much fun. He cooperated so well too! I have watched Aunt Eldy move to college, find a wonderful man, marry him, move away and leave us (sniff sniff) , start her own grown up life, and then bring this beautiful gift from God into all of our lives. I'm so proud of the person she has become, the wife she has become, and the mother she has become. It was a true pleasure to shoot this baby boy!

Yes, I promise this is still my photography blog. I just love to give everyone a taste of what my favorite thing to photograph is....daily life...in particular my family. Today our sweet neighbor offered us fresh corn to pick. We have been enjoying cooking fresh vegetables all week. Hubby helped me. When he is hot and sweaty, he's even cute...

My photography lately is still very busy. I am working on posting new clients very soon while enjoying why I started photography in the beginning.....photographing family and friends! One of Nash's best buds will be moving soon, sniff sniff, and we will miss all of them greatly! We were able to enjoy the blackberry patch with them yesterday, man was it hot, but it was worth it! Well, this was a fun afternoon. This family and my family have been through alot together. They moved from Cali to Cali. We've had babies together, moved together, remodeled and almost lost our mind together, and vacationed to the beach to keep from losing our mind for almost 5 years now. It was a true pleasure to capture the beauty of their family. I hope it was as big a gift to them as it was to me!

I am almost never without my camera. Photography is a passion for me, especially documenting children. So, when I share, this is what to do.

Go to the Flickr link I send you. Click on a picture you would like to have.

Then you will see this page. Hit the "all sizes" button.

After you hit All Sizes you will see this page:

When you see the above page, normally medium is a good size. Then hit download...it is yours! I highly recommend uploading and storing to Flickr. I have everything double saved. In case, heaven forbid, my house burns, all my pics are on an online server like Flickr. Hope this helps!

My sides hurt by the time I got done photographing these friends. Seriously, we always laugh too much, no different taking pics. This just happens to be my little boys bff. They are 2 peas in a pod! It is always a joy to take pics, but when you can give such a close friend the gift of making time stand still, it is even sweeter.

This sweetie's mom and I photographed him about a month ago. We didn't get exactly what we were wanting, so when I stopped by their house the other day, we gave it another shot. I tell you what, give a boy a bulldozer and you can photograph him all day long. And boy, did we succeed. He turned into quite the little ham in front of the camera. Some of my favorite shots thus far. And the one of him and his mom, beautiful. His mama is a sweet friend and and absolute wonderful mama. You can tell how much she loves those boys! She truly is as beautiful on the inside as the outside. I was so very excited when I loaded these...sweet boy.....

This baby is not only my 3rd cousin, she smiles more than any baby I have ever seen. That makes my job a piece of cake! This was my second time to photograph her and each time I think she gets cuter than the last. I tell you what, every time I start editing and come across those pictures of daddy's and their little girls, I tear up.

These to dolls had more sass than my camera could hold! Seriously, when I got done shooting we had a total of about 600 images to work through. They were after my own heart big time. I love a girl with some personality who's not afraid to show it. They were a true joy!

Well, this shoot was very exciting for me. One, because it was my first engaged couple to have the privilege of shooting. Two - because he is the son of one of my very dearest friends. They were fabulous to shoot, completely awesome! You can tell when two people are meant for one another, and they are. True happiness!

I loved every minute of this shoot. These girls and I are 2nd cousins and grew up playing together. So fun to now photograph their children. We had quite a chilly morning in my opinion, but probably a heat wave for these South Dakotians! I'll post more to come after the families have a chance to view them!

Well, I know most of you wonder where I have been. It’s been Christmas Card Palooza for the last few months and I had to withhold my posting so I wouldn’t ruin any of the Christmas Cards surprises. Oh how much fun we have had. Each family ( I am still with-holding a few so that Christmas presents will still be a surprise) was such a fun adventure for me. Kara and I share the same passion for photography. We love capturing the joy of our little boys. Kara was visiting her grandparents last week and I got the honor of putting her on the other side of the camera. This project was a co-collaberation. I photographed and she edited.
